Walk through Motovun’s old town

Motovun: A historical gem in Istria

Motovun is a historic village in Istria, built on a hill with spectacular views of the surrounding fields and forests. It is known for its well-preserved medieval buildings, its wineries and its famous summer film festival. It is a favourite destination for tourists seeking tranquillity and natural beauty combined with culture and history.

Parking in Motovun

Parking in Motovun is limited depending on the time of year and the number of visitors. However, there are several car parks near the village that are suitable for both cars and buses. Some of these car parks are paid and others are free. There are also some car parks near the centre, but these often fill up quickly. It is therefore recommended to arrive early to find a parking space.

Motovun history

The first traces of human settlement in the area date back to Roman times. During the Middle Ages, Motovun was fought over by the neighbouring towns of Pazin and Novigrad and changed hands several times.

In the 14th century it was conquered by the Venetians and under their rule it developed into an important commercial and administrative town. During the 16th and 17th centuries, Motovun was besieged and conquered by the Ottomans, but the Venetians managed to recapture it.

In the 18th century it was taken by the French before being occupied by the Austrians in the 19th century. Finally, in the 20th century, Motovun became part of Yugoslavia and, after the break-up of Yugoslavia, part of Croatia.

WHAT OUR GUESTS SAY

Well-being guaranteed!

We stayed with 6 people in Villa Verde, which offers more than enough space. The furnishings and equipment leave nothing to be desired and the location could hardly have been better for us. We will definitely be back!

One of the most beautiful houses in Višnjan

The renovation is definitely very successful. We felt completely at home and had a wonderful time in Višnjan. You can tell that the owners also holiday here themselves, because the furnishings are very extensive and we wanted for nothing.

A wonderful holiday

As one of the first guests ever at Villa Verde Višnjan, we received a very warm welcome and spent a very nice holiday in Croatia. The location was ideal for us (we took the 15-minute drive to the beach on some days) and you always came back to the holiday home with a good feeling. We will certainly book a holiday again sometime.
