Parking in Motovun
Parking in Motovun is limited depending on the time of year and the number of visitors. However, there are several car parks near the village that are suitable for both cars and buses. Some of these car parks are paid and others are free. There are also some car parks near the centre, but these often fill up quickly. It is therefore recommended to arrive early to find a parking space.
Motovun history
The first traces of human settlement in the area date back to Roman times. During the Middle Ages, Motovun was fought over by the neighbouring towns of Pazin and Novigrad and changed hands several times.
In the 14th century it was conquered by the Venetians and under their rule it developed into an important commercial and administrative town. During the 16th and 17th centuries, Motovun was besieged and conquered by the Ottomans, but the Venetians managed to recapture it.
In the 18th century it was taken by the French before being occupied by the Austrians in the 19th century. Finally, in the 20th century, Motovun became part of Yugoslavia and, after the break-up of Yugoslavia, part of Croatia.
