Landscape, climate and ride feel / Best time to visit
Istria has a typical Mediterranean climate with mild winters and warm, dry summers; it is slightly milder along the coast, and just a touch cooler in the inland areas around Višnjan. For road cyclists, spring and autumn are particularly attractive, with pleasant temperatures and roads that are much quieter than in the peak summer season.
The best time for training camps and cycling holidays is from March to early June and from mid‑September to the end of October; during these months, average daytime highs in nearby Poreč usually range between about 12 and 23 degrees. In the summer months from June to August, temperatures often climb far above 30 degrees, which is ideal for a beach holiday but can be too hot for intense road cycling, especially around midday.
This creates a riding experience that combines fast coastal sections, rolling terrain in the inland hills and longer climbs towards the Učka mountain range – offering everything you need for a varied and memorable road cycling holiday.
