Romantic small town

The picturesque small town of Pazin is located in the heart of the Istria region, only about 30 kilometres from Porec. In recent years, the town and its suburb Beram have become an extremely popular destination for hikers and cyclists. Known for its historic castle complex, the fort of Pazin, the town even served as a source of inspiration for the famous writer Jules Verne. Verne described the castle in his novel “Mathias Sandorf”.

A day in Pazin

A day trip to Pazin offers a wealth of activities and sights. Here are some suggestions:

  1. Visit to the Pazin Castle: The castle complex is undoubtedly the most famous landmark of Pazin and a must for every visitor. The castle is one of the largest and best preserved fortresses in the region. The fort was first mentioned in the tenth century. The former private residence of the Habsburgs now houses the Ethnographic Museum and the Pazin Town Museum.
  2. Visit to the Ethnographic Museum: The Ethnographic Museum of Pazin provides insights into the life and traditions of the Istrian region. Here you can see historical artefacts and tools and learn more about the local culture. The museum is open daily, except Mondays, from 10:00 – 18:00. The entrance fee is about 2 euros.
  3. Walk along the Pazin Valley: The Pazin Valley is a breathtaking landscape that winds through the city. Along the valley there are hiking trails and viewpoints that offer a magnificent view of the surroundings.
  4. Lunch in a traditional konoba: Istria is known for its excellent cuisine, and Pazin is no exception. Visit a konoba (e.g. Konoba Vela Vrata) and taste local specialities such as truffles, homemade pasta and wine.
  5. Visit to the Pazin Cave: The Pazin Cave is a natural spectacle formed from the rock under the Pazin Castle. The cave is equipped with a network of walkways and bridges that lead visitors through the cave. It can be reached on foot from the fort.
  6. Cycling or hiking in the surroundings: The surroundings of Pazin offer an abundance of hiking and cycling trails. Discover the beauty of the surrounding landscape and enjoy the fresh air.
  7. Zipline over the Pazin Gorge: If you’re looking for action, you can zipline across the Paziner Gorge. You can find all the information >in this article<
  8. Visit the parish church of St. Nicholas: it was built in Pazin in the 13th century and expanded in the 15th and 18th centuries. The interior of the church is magnificently decorated with frescoes and the net vault above the altar is adorned with beautiful ceiling paintings.
  9. Want to cool off? Zarecki krov is the most famous bathing spot in the small town of Pazin. Away from the sea, this place offers the opportunity to cool off under the clear waterfall. The stone plateaus invite you to sunbathe and the brave bathers can jump from the rocks into the cool water.

These activities are just a few suggestions for a day trip to Pazin. There is much more to discover, so plan your visit and experience the beauty of this charming town for yourself.

What our guests say

The house is beautiful, with plenty of space for 7 people. The four bedrooms are nicely furnished, each with its own TV. The pool was definitely a highlight – sun loungers, parasols and towels were all ready, as was a charcoal grill. Very peaceful surroundings with shops and restaurants within walking distance. Stefan and Laura were always reachable. We had a wonderful holiday and would love to come back – highly recommended, great for families with children too!

One of the most beautiful houses in Višnjan! A lovingly renovated historic building, updated with all modern comforts. Višnjan has everything you need: a butcher, supermarkets, a pizzeria and a very good local restaurant. The sea is less than 15 minutes away. After a day out, the pool is perfect for cooling off. We felt very much at home and would love to return!

A beautiful house in a great location, just 20 minutes by car from the sea. I was there with 6 friends for a cycling race – the house was an absolute highlight and very well equipped. A wonderful retreat, especially for families. The village has great restaurants: from local cuisine to Italian pizza.

Very friendly host who responds to messages straight away. Clean pool with generous dimensions, completely renovated house and beautifully furnished rooms. One minor note: you can hear noise between floors – groups with different sleeping schedules should be aware of this.
